Live in-person events in Cornwall

We host live events for writers throughout the year: 5-night residential Time to Write retreats, 2-day non-residential Just Write weekends, and themed Sunday retreats in series of three.

Our in-person events include writing time, group workshops, one to one coaching, refreshments, and our delicious home-cooked food.

Our residential retreats take place in beautiful tucked away places in parts of west and south Cornwall that provide peace, quiet and inspiring surroundings. Our weekend and Sunday retreats are held near Falmouth.

“You won’t ever regret going on one of these writing retreats. You’ll be desperately trying to book another one as soon as you get home”

Lin Rogers, Bonython retreat, November 2023

Time to Write residential retreats in Cornwall

Peace and quiet, a room of one’s own, supportive tutors, good company, beautiful surroundings and food to savour: our 5-night retreats provide all this and more. You won’t have to lift a finger apart from to hold your pen or type on your laptop.

Our next two 5-night residential retreats are from 17-22 November 2024 at Rosemerryn, near Lamorna Cove in west Cornwall and 29 September to 4 October at Bonython on The Lizard. Please get in touch if you would like to retreat with us and we can let you know the latest availability.

As a guide to costs, our all-inclusive rates are  from £770 to £870 in 2024. The cost includes accommodation, all meals and refreshments, writing workshops, and one to ones with our tutors.

We pride ourselves on our delicious home cooked food, and wine is included with the evening meal. You simply have to get yourself to the retreat. Then you can unpack, relax, and make the most of your time away with no distractions and in great company.

Just Write weekend

20 and 21 January 2024

Our next Just Write weekend is the perfect way to get your writing into gear for the New Year. This non-residential retreat provides two days of uninterrupted time to write, plan, think or simply enjoy the pleasure of writing without distractions. You can choose to join us for the full weekend, or on either of the two days.

Just Write is for anyone with a writing project in progress, anyone who wants to kick start something new, or anyone who simply wants time away from home to write in peace and quiet. If you’d like to spend time with your pen or laptop and simply see what happens, Just Write is for you.

You will have your own writing space with a desk. We provide some inspiration to help you start writing, and writing sessions throughout the day to help you focus. You can sign up on the day for optional one to ones.

The full weekend is £120 and we encourage everyone to come for the full weekend to make the most of the writing time. If you can only make one day, there is the option to come on either the Saturday or the Sunday at the single day rate of £65. All refreshments and lunch are included.

The days run from 10.00am until 5.00pm. Our  venue is Tremayne Hall, a characterful community hall in the creek side village of Mylor Bridge near Falmouth. Access is level and there is free parking nearby. Buses run from Falmouth and Truro on Saturdays and the nearest train station is Perranwell Station.

If you live in Cornwall, or are visiting, do join us.

Sunday retreats

Our Sunday retreats are the perfect way to learn new writing skills and kickstart something new. These one-day retreats take place in the glorious setting of Flushing Sailing Club overlooking Falmouth Harbour. We start at 11.00am and finish by 4.00pm, with all refreshments and a home-cooked lunch included. Our next series in spring 2024 is called The Long and the Short of It. We will be comparing the characteristics of the short story, the novella, and the novel. If you find yourself wondering about the difference, these retreats will explain all.

Bespoke retreats

From time to time we host retreats for writing groups, including former guests who loved their time with us so much that they want to come again as a group. We are always happy to host a follow-up or bespoke group, subject to the availability of venues and the time of year. In our experience, autumn and spring are best for both cost and availability. Please note that summer in Cornwall is busy, accommodation costs are higher, and our favourite retreat venues are unlikely to be available.
