A different view

When we started The Writing Retreat in 2014 we had a simple vision; to create a space for writers to come together for a week in a beautiful part of Cornwall to write, work and learn together, with delicious food and excellent company. Rosemerryn, our venue close to Lamorna Cove, ticks all the boxes, with lovely comfortable rooms, a creative vibe, wood fires, a kitchen to die for and – crucially – that ‘away from it all’ feeling, yet close to Penzance and the mainline station for ease of access.

It was always our intention, when the time was right, to take our retreats to other venues in Cornwall, to make the most of the wonderful scenic diversity of our part of the UK. May 2016 is that time. We see The Writing Retreat as a peripatetic concept, one that can thrive in different settings that have certain features in common: the peace and quiet, natural beauty, and the level of comfort required to give our guests a week in which all they have to do is write and enjoy each other’s company, away from the demands of home and work.

court-corner

For our May 2016 retreat we have chosen Bosloe, a gorgeous National Trust holiday home overlooking the Helford River. It offers us more space for living and dining, stunning sea views from many of the beautifully appointed bedrooms, and a magnificent setting in its own grounds above the Coastal Path.

Bosloe in May will mean early summer blossom, glorious sea views, walks in the fresh air, and cosy evenings by the fire. We’ll be able to spread out and use all three of the linked houses that together make up the whole of Bosloe, with a big breakfast table at one end, dinner in the middle and a lovely space for morning workshops in a newly converted barn-like room at the other. It’s a handsome house with a touch of luxury and all home comforts, perfect for a retreat.

Falmouth is a stone’s throw away, with its world famous harbour, sandy beaches, and the handy branch line to Truro’s mainline station. The National Trust’s famous Glendurgan Garden is literally over the garden wall, and access is free for our guests during their stay.

We’ll be back at Rosemerryn in November, but we can’t wait to welcome people to Bosloe for May. It promises to be a very special retreat, with Patrick Gale as our guest author midweek. You’ll have all the time you need for your own writing, with one-to-one support and morning inspiration from both of us as your resident tutors.

See you soon,

Jane and Kath
